4. Is there a benefit to 30 year shingles?
While 30 year shingles will not last 30 years in the Texas heat, they should definitely be considered when replacing your existing roofing system. The 30 year architectural shingles will last longer, have a higher wind rating, and will provide a greater curb appeal from the standard 20 year shingles. We have found over the years that this low cost upgrade does help in the resale of an existing property. If you would like to look at shingle colors and choices, please visit our manufacturer partners here. Please ask your sales representative for pricing on the 30 year options.
5. Should I use valley metal in my valleys?
Valley’s are a main area for leaks. They have been problem areas for homeowners for years. It makes sense, because of the amount of water that funnels to this space. Texas is unique to the climate and weather that we experience. While added protection for valley’s is a necessity in Northern regions, where ice and snow will build and can sit in a valley for extended periods of time, causing a damming effect, and eventually a leak. We just don’t have that type of weather here in Texas.
While many Texas roofers will try to up sell added valley protect, please note that it is not mandatory to do so in Texas. The chances are that you may not have a valley metal installed at this time, and you probably have not had a leak in your valley since you moved in. However, even though it is not a necessity it is still a good idea to have added protection in this problem area. The valley is typically the highest place for foot traffic on your roof. The added protection will help, if the shingles become damaged in that area. Whether it be form foot traffic or from a storm in your area.

Recommedations
- We would recommend that you use a self sealing membrane in the valley, before choosing to use a valley metal. Unlike valley metal a self sealing underlayment will seal itself back up after a nail is driven through it. Another benefit to self sealing membrane is that it will never rust out.
6. Are nails or staples better, what about hand nailing?
Although there are still roofers that will swear by a staple, Quick Roofing has been using the manufacturers recommend 1 ¼” nail as our fastener for years. We would encourage all homeowners to have their shingles fastened with a nail. Why? Blown off shingles can occur, but it seems to be a more frequent occurrence when the shingles are fastened with a staple.
Quick Roofing has both coil nail and hand nail crews available. It is a concern of some to have the shingles nailed on with a coil nail gun. The concern is that the nail will be over driven and blow through the shingle, consequently there is nothing holding the shingle down to the roof. While we have seen examples of this in the field, we have also seen overdriven nails that were hand nailed too. The nailing issue is truly a matter of project management.
If for some reason there is no quality control, than mistakes are going to be made. It doesn’t matter what type of fastener is used, or how that fastener is applied. As part of our roofing process your Quick Roofing sales representative is responsible to conduct a regular quality control check. As they manage your project, one thing they will be examining is the nailing pattern and the nail penetration.

7. What type of warranty do you offer?
Quick Roofing offers a 5 year workmanship warranty. It has been said that a warranty is only as good as the company behind it, and we would readily agree with that statement. You can rest assured that a Quick Roofing warranty is as good as gold. Your warranty will be here when the storm is not, and your warranty will be serviced by one of our full time service techs that work 6 days a week.
